How to use your Eastmonts Ski Tunes

Two minutes here and you are set for the season. Watch the video, then use the sections below whenever you need them. Everything on this page is the complete manual for the product in your hands.

Before your first run: keep the volume low enough to hear other skiers and lifts, and always take the electronics out before you wash the band. Read the full safety notice.

Read before first use

Five things that matter more than anything else on this page.

  • Protect your hearing. Listening at high volume for long periods can cause permanent hearing loss. Set the volume at a level that is comfortable in a quiet room, then leave it there.
  • Stay aware on the mountain. You need to hear other skiers, lifts and patrol. Keep the volume low, or switch to single-ear mode with a triple press. Check your resort's rules on listening to audio while riding.
  • Not waterproof. Ski Tunes has no water resistance rating. Always remove the control module and both speakers before washing the band, and never put the electronics in water.
  • Built-in rechargeable battery. Charge only with a standard USB power source, never below 0°C / 32°F, and never pierce, crush, heat or burn the control module. Stop using it if the module is damaged, swollen or hot.
  • Ski Tunes is not protective equipment. It does not replace or improve a helmet. Put it on under your helmet and check that the helmet still fits and fastens exactly as the helmet maker intends.

What is included

  • Ski Tunes® V3 headband in bamboo blend fabric, with both speakers and the microphone already fitted inside. All of it slides out for washing.
  • Control module, already in place at the back of the band: one button, one indicator light, USB-C port
  • USB-C charging cable Confirm before print
  • Safety and compliance card, the printed insert that came in the box. Keep it.
The speakers and the control module slide out through the opening on the inside of the band. That is by design, so you can wash the fabric. Nothing needs to be removed before you use it.

Quick start

  1. Charge it fully

    Plug a USB-C cable into the port at the bottom of the control module. The light flashes red while charging and turns solid green when it is full, after about 2 hours. Confirm shipping charge level

  2. Put it on

    Control module at the back of your head, sitting low so it clears the rim of your helmet. The power symbol should read the right way up. Then pull your helmet over the top.

  3. Turn it on

    Press and hold the button until the light comes on. Final hold time from LKK

  4. Connect your phone

    When you hear the pairing sound, open the wireless device list on your phone and choose Eastmonts. Play something to check it worked.

How to wear it

  • Module at the back, low on the band. It is designed to sit below the edge of your helmet so nothing presses into your head.
  • Power symbol the right way up. If the symbol reads upside down, the band is on backwards.
  • Center each speaker over your ear. Both speakers slide inside the fabric. Move them with your fingers through the band until the sound sits right in the middle of each ear. This is the single biggest difference between thin sound and full sound.
  • Helmet over the top, then re-check the fit. The helmet has to close and hold exactly as its maker intended with the band underneath. If it does not, loosen the helmet fit system rather than riding with a loose helmet.
  • Band over the ears, not folded on them. Fabric folded double over an ear muffles everything.

Connecting your phone

Ski Tunes connects wirelessly to your phone, tablet or watch. You only do this once per device.

First time

  1. Put it in pairing mode

    Hold the button until you hear the pairing sound. There is no light for this step, and you would not see it anyway: the control module sits at the back of your head. Listen, do not look. Final hold behaviour from LKK

  2. Open the device list on your phone

    On iPhone: Settings, then the wireless connections screen that lists nearby devices. On Android: Settings, Connected devices, Pair new device.

  3. Tap Eastmonts

    That is the name Ski Tunes broadcasts. No code or PIN is needed.

  4. Check that it connected

    Your phone lists Eastmonts as connected. Play something to confirm.

Every time after that: switch it on and it finds your phone again on its own, as long as the phone is in range and its wireless connection is on. You do not need to pair again. Auto-reconnect behaviour pending LKK confirmation
Connecting a different phone: put Ski Tunes back into pairing mode. That clears the phone it remembers and lets the new one connect. Only one device is stored at a time, so switching back means pairing the first phone again.

The button

One button on the control module does everything except volume. Volume lives on your phone, there are no volume buttons on the band.

Calls and the microphone

  • The microphone runs from the control module. It sits on its own reinforced line inside the band, so there is nothing to clip on and no separate accessory to lose.
  • Put it where it feels right. Slide the microphone along the band until it sits comfortably and out of the way. Closer to your mouth carries your voice better.
  • Answer with one press. End the same way. Music pauses for the call and picks up again afterwards.
  • Decline a call from your phone.
  • Speak at a normal volume. You do not need to shout. In hard wind, turning slightly out of the wind does more for the person on the other end than anything else.
  • It comes out for washing, together with the control module and both speakers. See Washing and care.

Charging

  1. Find the USB-C port

    At the bottom edge of the control module, at the back of the band.

  2. Plug into any standard USB power source

    A phone charger or a laptop both work. Max input rating from LKK

  3. Watch the light

    Flashing red while charging, solid green when full. A full charge takes about 2 hours.

What the light means

You cannot see this light while you are wearing the band, because the module sits at the back of your head. It is there for when Ski Tunes is off your head and on charge. Everything you need while wearing it is a sound.

  • Flashing blue. Meaning to be confirmed: pairing is signalled by sound, not by this light
  • Solid blue. Connected to your device.
  • Flashing red. Charging.
  • Solid red. Battery low, time to charge.
  • Solid green. Fully charged.

Charging rules

  • Charge indoors at room temperature. Never charge the battery below 0°C / 32°F.
  • Do not charge a band that is wet, or electronics that have been in water.
  • Use a USB power source that meets a recognised safety standard. Do not use a damaged cable.
  • Unplug it once the light is solid green.

What changes the 8 hours. Up to 8 hours is measured at roughly 85% phone volume. Light listening runs past 8 hours, heavy bass runs shorter, and cold weather shortens every battery. Turning the volume down is the fastest way to get more out of a charge.
  • Charge it at room temperature, not on the mountain.
  • Off-season, top it up to full at least every 3 months. A battery left flat for months will not hold its capacity.
  • Store it somewhere dry and cool, away from heat and direct sun.

Washing and care

  1. Take the electronics out

    Reach through the opening on the inside of the band and slide out the control module, both speakers and the microphone. It all comes out through the same opening, and it all stays connected to the module.

  2. Hand wash the fabric only

    Cold water, mild detergent, hands only. No machine, no dryer, no ironing, no bleach.

  3. Air dry completely

    Flat, away from radiators and direct heat. The band has to be fully dry before the electronics go back in.

  4. Put it back together

    Slide the speakers back to the ear positions, the microphone to wherever it sat before, and the control module back to the rear pocket, lining the button up with the marked button area on the fabric. Press the button once to check it clicks.

Never wash the electronics

  • The control module, the speakers and the microphone are not waterproof and carry no water resistance rating. Water damage is not covered by the warranty.
  • Do not open, drill, drop or modify the control module.
  • Keep it away from fire and high heat, and do not store it next to acidic or alkaline materials.

If something is not right

My phone does not see “Eastmonts”

Work down this list, it is almost always one of the first three.

  • Make sure you heard the pairing sound. If you did not, it is not in pairing mode yet. Keep holding the button.
  • It may already be connected to something else, often a phone in another pocket or a tablet on the sofa. Turn that device's wireless off and pair again.
  • Charge it. A flat battery looks exactly like a broken one.
  • On your phone, turn the wireless connection off and on again, then look at the list of nearby devices.
  • Move within 10 m / 33 ft with nothing solid in between.
  • If your phone shows Eastmonts in its list of saved devices but will not connect, remove or forget it there first, then pair again from scratch.
Sound is only coming from one side

That is a feature, not a fault. A triple press cycles between left ear only, right ear only and both. It is there so you can keep one ear on the mountain. Triple press again until both sides are back.

If both sides are selected and one is still silent, check that the speaker has not slipped out of position inside the band after washing, and that it is fully seated in its pocket.

It is connected but there is no sound
  • Turn the volume up on the phone. All volume is phone-side.
  • Check your phone is sending audio to Eastmonts and not to the phone speaker or to another pair of headphones.
  • Press the button once. It may be paused.
  • Check both speakers are seated in their pockets in the band.
The sound is thin, quiet or muffled under my helmet

Nine times out of ten the speakers are not centered on your ears. Reach through the band and slide each speaker until it sits directly over the ear canal. Check the fabric is not folded double over an ear, and that the helmet lining is not pressing a speaker off to one side.

It will not charge, or no light comes on
  • Try another cable and another USB power source. Cables fail far more often than devices.
  • Make sure the plug is fully seated in the USB-C port.
  • If it has been in the cold, let it reach room temperature before charging.
  • Leave it on charge for 15 minutes before deciding it is dead. A deeply discharged battery can take a few minutes before the light appears.

Still nothing? Contact support, do not open the module.

The battery does not last 8 hours

Up to 8 hours is measured at roughly 85% phone volume with normal music. Three things shorten it: high volume, bass-heavy tracks, and cold. A day at minus ten with the volume at maximum is the worst case. Drop the volume a few steps and you will notice the difference.

People on calls say they cannot hear me

Check that your collar, a neck gaiter or a jacket hood is not sitting over the band and covering the microphone. If it keeps happening, slide the microphone to a clearer spot along the band. In strong wind, turn your head slightly away from the wind while you speak.

It stopped working after I washed it

The control module, speakers and microphone have to come out of the band before any washing, and the fabric has to be bone dry before they go back in. If water reached the electronics, stop using them, do not charge them, and contact support. Water damage is not covered by the warranty.

It disconnects when my phone is in my pocket

Range is 10 m / 33 ft in the open. A body, a wet jacket and a chairlift frame all cut into that. An inside chest pocket usually holds a connection better than a back trouser pocket.

Safety, warnings and regulatory information

Everything from here down is required information, written plainly on purpose. Read it once before you use Ski Tunes®, and keep the printed card that came in the box.

Warnings

Hearing

  • Listening at high volume for long periods can cause permanent hearing loss. Set the volume as low as you can and still enjoy it.
  • Do not turn the volume up to drown out noisy surroundings.
  • If your ears ring, feel blocked or sounds seem muffled after listening, stop and see a doctor.
  • Hearing damage builds up silently over years. The safe listening time drops sharply as volume rises.

Awareness and use on the mountain

  • Keep the volume low enough to hear other skiers and snowboarders, lifts, snow vehicles, avalanche control and ski patrol at all times.
  • Use single-ear mode, a triple press, when you need more awareness.
  • Check the rules of your resort and your local laws. Some places restrict listening to audio while riding, driving or cycling.
  • Do not use Ski Tunes where you need your full hearing, including while driving.
  • Ski Tunes is not protective equipment. It does not replace a helmet and does not improve one. Wear it under a correctly fitted helmet and follow the helmet manufacturer's instructions. If the helmet no longer fits correctly with the band underneath, adjust the helmet's fit system.

Battery and charging

  • Ski Tunes contains a built-in rechargeable lithium-polymer battery. It is not user replaceable. Do not try to remove or replace it.
  • Do not expose the control module to fire, open flame, or high heat, and do not leave it in direct sun or a hot car.
  • Do not pierce, crush, cut, drop or otherwise damage the control module.
  • Do not charge the battery below 0°C / 32°F.
  • Charge only from a standard USB power source that meets a recognised safety standard, using an undamaged cable.
  • Stop using the product immediately and contact support if the module is deformed, swollen, discoloured, unusually hot, or gives off an odour.
  • Do not store the product near acidic or alkaline materials.

Water, children and general use

  • Ski Tunes has no water resistance rating. Keep the control module, speakers and microphone dry. Always remove them before washing the band.
  • Do not open, modify or attempt to repair the control module. There are no serviceable parts inside, and doing so voids the warranty and may void your authority to operate the device.
  • Keep the product and its removable parts away from young children. It is not a toy and the removable speakers and module are a choking hazard for small children.
  • Stop using the product if your skin reacts to the fabric.
  • If you use a pacemaker, defibrillator or other implanted medical device, talk to your doctor before using any wireless device, and keep the control module more than 15 cm / 6 in from the implant.

Where Ski Tunes is sold

Ski Tunes® V3 is approved for sale in the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom. It is not yet approved for sale or use in Canada. Confirm the final market list before publishing

Disposal and recycling

The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol on the control module means this product must not be thrown away with household waste. It contains electronics and a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery, which have to be collected separately.

United States: rechargeable batteries and small electronics are accepted free of charge at thousands of retail drop-off points. Find one near you through your local household hazardous waste program or a national battery take-back program. Never put a lithium battery in household trash or in a curbside recycling bin. It can start a fire in the truck or at the facility.

European Union and United Kingdom: hand the product in at a municipal collection point for waste electrical and electronic equipment, or return it to the retailer under the local take-back scheme.

Do not attempt to remove the battery yourself. If you want the product recycled and cannot find a collection point, contact us and we will tell you where to send it.

Warranty

Limited warranty period: Term to be confirmed from the date of purchase, for the original purchaser, on defects in materials and workmanship under normal use.

What we do: repair or replace the product, at our option, at no charge.

Not covered: water damage, normal wear on the fabric, damage from a drop or crush, damage from opening or modifying the control module, battery capacity loss from normal ageing, and use outside the instructions in this manual.

To make a claim: contact support with your order number and a short description. Do not send anything back before we confirm.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state. Consumers in the European Union and the United Kingdom keep their statutory rights against the seller, which this warranty does not affect.
